About Kia Fisher
Kia Fisher is currently freelance coaching and is adjunct faculty at Kennesaw State University. Kia also teaches at The Good Acting Studio. Kia has taught at Mauldin Cultural Center, Amana Academy, and Furman University Summer Camp. Kia started teaching Acting 101 and Intermediate Acting at Clayton State University Center for Continuing Education when when she first relocated back to Atlanta. You may have seen Kia Fisher playing Regina in the recent Indie Fest short film winner, “Chasing the Train” that the Black Hollywood Education & Resource Center selected for the 18th ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN FILM MARKETPLACE & SHORT-FILM SHOWCASE. Kia Fisher recently appeared in Atlanta on stage in the HUCC Productions play, MALICE as Joyce. She also appeared as a guest star in an episode of the upcoming B. Rhino LLC web series, “Life Coached.”
Kia is a member of the SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) actors' union and is eligible for membership in Actor's Equity.
Kia began taking acting classes as a student in the Gifted Artistic Theatrical Expansion (G.A.T.E.) Program of the Greenville County (SC) School District. Kia received a BA in Theatre Arts from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. There, she was mentored by the late Carol Mitchell-Leon, the late Whitman Mayo, and J.W. Lewis. Kia has a MFA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis on Acting as well as a Certificate in African American Theatre from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. There, she studied under Zan Sawyer Daily, Associate Director of the Actors Theatre of Louisville and Jennifer Hubbard of Anne Bogart’s SITI Company. As a member of the Repertory Company, Kia performed at many area schools and taught Acting for Non-Majors. After relocating to Los Angeles, CA, Kia completed Mike Pointer’s series of classes at Hey, I Saw Your Commercial. She also studied under Steve Cardwell at Van Mar Academy of Motion Picture and Television Acting. She has taken many classes and workshops including yoga, stage combat, tai chi, and mime work.
Kia has also appeared in the film, “Mack Lessons” and the short films “The Bohemian” and “Don’t Go,” which was featured in the Pan African Film Festival. Kia can be seen as the sneaky double agent, Justice, on the webisode series, “Ahshe.” She traveled to the Grahamstown Arts Festival in Grahamstown, SA as a member of an African and American delegation to perform “Middle Passage: A Ritual of Healing.” Kia worked as an actor-educator at C.L.I.M.B. Children’s Theatre in St. Paul, MN. Kia has also toured the country as a member of hereandnow Theatre Company. She started with that group in the summer of 2009 in the show, “Layover in LA.” She has performed as the lead in Antigone, The Glass Menagerie, for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, and ‘night Mother, among others.
Kia is originally from Mauldin, SC. She loves watching films, dining out, and traveling. Besides her trip to South Africa, Kia has been to most of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Israel, and most recently, Barbados (for a big birthday)! She has relocated to Atlanta, GA, though she still remains bi-coastal. She has worked as an educator for many years and now teaches acting classes through her own company, Sui Generis Visions.
